What’s In The Box
When I opened the package, tucked inside was a small bottle of Massage and Body Work Oil made by The Butters Hygienics Co. The package also contained a postcard defining hygienics, and a ‘100% Bullsh*t Free’ sticker. One thing I already love about this company is the transparency when it comes to their products and the ingredients they use. This company is also 100% vegan and all products are handcrafted.
What’s In The Bottle
The font on both labels is bold and crisp and easy to read. The 3 key ingredients (sunflower, grapeseed, jojoba) are listed on the front of the bottle and the detailed list is on the back. Knowing what to expect within the ingredients is very important to me. My partner is very sensitive to scents and has very sensitive skin so I have to be careful when it comes to oils. So what’s in this delightful little bottle?
The ingredients: Sunflower, Grape, Apricot and Red Raspberry seed oils, Jojoba oil, Isopropyl myristate, and fragrance.
How Does It Feel
Keeping in mind this is an oil, a little bit goes a long way. It is slick but not watery like many other oils on the market. I love that this oil doesn’t feel greasy after use. It can be left on to absorb into the skin or easily dabbed off. Many massage oils are heated to allow ease of application. This oil can be heated, but not above a maximum of 100F, which is also clearly marked on the bottle. I feel that rubbing my hands together with the oil generated plenty of heat.
Testing…One, Two, Three
Before I test products on my partners I try them out on myself. My first massage with the oil was on the in-step of my feet. I have issues with my tibial tendons and a good foot rub makes a big difference. I really enjoyed the tactile feel as my hands smoothly glided over my skin. The oil didn’t dry out, as other oils have, during the massage. I left the oil on my skin to be absorbed and it didn’t give me that leftover oily skin feel.
For the second test I massaged my partner. As he is very atopic and most products make his skin breakout we decided to massage just his shoulders. He was a little hesitant about the scent, but was relieved it didn’t bother him. Even though this oil does not have a warming agent, enough heat was generated between us that the oil lasted through the 20 minutes I massaged him. He immediately showered after the massage just in case he had a reaction.
I have several tattoos and I like to test out products to see if they liven the colors and can keep them looking fresh. By rubbing a small amount of oil into my tattoos on my forearms and letting it absorb, the colors brightened immensely. The grapeseed and jojoba in this oil are often found in moisturizers for tattoos. Grapeseed is breathable and great for sensitive skin, while jojoba has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. This may not be something normally marketed for this product but I would suggest it to anyone with tattoos.
The last test was also on my partner, this time I massaged his back. He has a large tattoo covering his backside, after listening to me gush about this product’s capabilities, he was intrigued to see if it would do the same for him. I did have to use a bit more oil as the surface area expanded, but I was delighted to discover that adding more oil didn’t decrease the friction between my hand and his back. I was able to press harder in the places he needed without my hands slipping off of him. His tattoo is primarily green and gray and this oil brought it back to life while providing the moisture it needed. He let the oil fully absorb this time and was very pleased that he did not have any negative reaction.
I love touching my partners and this oil makes me want to touch them even more. I couldn’t find anything about this product that I didn’t like and it is something I will keep on hand for many future uses. The Massage and Body Work Oil is available in a 2oz bottle for $5.95 and a 4oz bottle for $10.00.
